With JU, you can keep your personal and professional life in balance while reaching your education goals with one of the nation's largest multimedia RN to BSN online degree programs.

Why Jacksonville University's online RN to BSN program?

JU has chosen to work with the University Alliance Online, the worldwide leader in online professional education, to bring a high-quality academic program to busy nursing professionals like you. You will receive a top-notch education from a private university with over 70 years of campus history. And you can attend your online courses wherever you can access the Internet. Here are even more reasons why you should earn your BSN online from JU:

Attend class anytime, anywhere - campus attendance is never required
Begin during any one of six sessions each year
Enjoy short eight-week courses created to work best for the adult learner
Earn the same CCNE-accredited degree awarded to on-campus students
Receive 30 credits free for an active U.S. RN license
Transfer approved credits (which never expire) from degree and diploma programs
Start and stop the program whenever you like with no graduation date requirement
Get support from full-time professors, academic advisors and a technical staff
Walk with on-campus classmates at graduation

Am I qualified?

No matter how long ago you got your RN, if you have an active U.S. RN license, you can apply. JU students come from all clinical backgrounds and from varying sectors of the healthcare industry. Rest assured you will meet classmates your same age and with similar work experience. If you have the following, you are qualified to attend:

An associate's degree or nursing diploma from a state-approved nursing program with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in non-nursing required courses
An active U.S. Registered Nurse license (all states are acceptable)
Basic computer skills such as word processing, emailing and navigating the web

2. Request your transcripts from previous schools attended
3. Pay a non-refundable $35 application fee
4. Provide a copy of your photo I.D.
5. Apply for financial aid

Curriculum

The program requires 121 total credits with 30 credits immediately subtracted for your active U.S RN license. Every course you need to graduate is offered through JU's program and is typically taught by full-time, on-campus nursing faculty. Need prerequisite courses that have a lab component such as chemistry, anatomy or microbiology? These are online also, with all equipment, such as a microscope and culture medium for microbiology, shipped to your home. Submit your transcripts today and see how many credits transfer into the JU BSN program. And remember, your credits never expire - even if you went to school 20 years ago.

What about practice projects (clinicals)?

JU calls them practice projects because no hands-on patient care is required. You choose a preceptor in your hometown who has a BSN or higher. The projects are career-enhancing so you will select areas of nursing that interest you. Two courses have projects: community health and professional nursing synthesis. Here are some examples of projects completed by recent JU graduates:

Developed an inservice on signs and symptoms of dehydration
Created a reference packet for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients
Presented information on Sickle Cell Disease to a local school
Developed a bilingual presentation on health improvement for migrant workers
Designed and implemented a new staffing pattern
Completed a community assessment of an outpatient dialysis center
Redesigned an OR communication board

Quality online classroom

Jacksonville University is committed to academic excellence and has chosen to work with the online education technology expert, the University Alliance. This partnership has resulted in an online classroom with a unique combination of multimedia tools and an effective, flexible and interactive online learning experience. The following are a few features of the program:

Streaming video lectures over the Internet are led by university professors who are clinical and instructional experts in their field
Each course has its own CD-ROM featuring the same streaming video lectures so you don't need to be connected to the Internet to watch
The online classroom includes user-friendly functions like "stop," "start" and "pause" so you can move at your own speed
All your course materials are conveniently shipped to you each session

Faculty and enrollment support

The online classroom is not a cold and uninviting environment as some may believe. You are supported by professors and fellow classmates through virtual office hours, Internet message boards, chat rooms and email. In addition, you will have your own JU academic advisor and tech support professionals available to address any questions or concerns. Another member of your support team is your University Alliance student services representative who will enroll you each session. The same representative will be with you through graduation.

"As a teacher, I think Jacksonville University's online BSN is a unique opportunity … to really reach out to the students to meet their individual learning needs…. The university puts a lot of time into training and working with professors and adjunct faculty to help them meet the differing needs of the distance learners. I really enjoy teaching and facilitating in this program."

Patricia Richards, Jacksonville University professor

"It was great to be able to study at my own pace and be able to complete my goal. It allowed me as a military spouse to complete my degree even though we moved many times during the course of working on my BSN."

Connie Harden, Japan
"I researched online schools for several weeks before choosing JU. I found JU's RN to BSN program to best fit my needs as a nurse who is employed full time. I appreciated that I could do the work on my own time as long as I met the deadlines. There were no requirements to be online in class at any given time … The professors were always helpful and quick to respond to questions.

The program added to my knowledge base which allowed me to perform more effectively in my role as a director. I also had more credibility with my staff in their knowing that I had a degree. My student advisor was wonderful. She was responsive, as well as encouraging. I have recommended JU to my peers and employees."

Lori Vandersloot, Arizona
"I have been so impressed with the quality of the classes at JU and the excellence of the faculty. The course work is challenging and well organized. I feel more confident and competent in my professional knowledge and really proud of myself for having the courage to go back to school."

Martha Porinchak, Texas
