Online MBA Articles : Online MBA Degree Basics
What You Need to Know Before Enrolling in an Online MBA Program By Jamie Littlefield
Online MBA programs are a popular choice of older adults and mid-career professionals who want to earn a degree without sacrificing their job and home lives. Such programs are also becoming a fast favorite of the younger crowd, who are looking for ways to earn a graduate degree while keeping their current employment. Many find that online learning offers a flexibility that can’t be found in traditional schools. If you’re considering earning an online MBA, make sure you do your homework. Knowing the basics will help you make an informed decision about whether or not these programs are right for you.
Why do people earn online MBAs?
Online MBA students come from all walks of life. Many distance learning students are mid-career when they decide to get another degree. Older professionals with jobs and family responsibilities often find the flexibility of online programs to be a good fit. Some online students are looking for a career change but still want to maintain their current job until they get their MBA. Others are already working in business and earn their degree in order to be eligible for job promotions.
How long does it take to earn an MBA online?
The time it takes to finish an online MBA degree varies according to the school and the specialization. Some intensive MBA programs can be finished in as few as nine months. Other programs can take up to four years. Adding specializations to a degree can take even longer. Some schools allow students greater flexibility to work at their own pace while others require that students adhere to more demanding deadlines.
How much will it cost to earn an online MBA degree?
One online MBA degree can had for $10,000, another for $100,000. The cost of tuition varies substantially from college to college. Pricey doesn’t necessarily mean better (although some of the more expensive schools have some of the best reputations). Your employer may be willing to pay for part or all of your educational expenses, particularly if he or she thinks you’ll be sticking with the company. You may also be awarded grants, receive institutional or private scholarships, or qualify for financial aid.
Is earning an online MBA worth it?
Many online MBA graduates have used their new degrees to excel at the workplace, gain promotions, and achieve career success. Others have found that their time could have been better spent elsewhere. Those who find their degrees to be “worth it” share several traits in common: they knew they wanted to work in the business field beforehand, they chose a school with proper accreditation and a positive reputation, and their specialization was appropriate for the type of work they wanted to do.
Enrolling in an online MBA program is not a decision to take lightly. Accredited programs require hard work, time, and effort. But, for the right person, an online MBA can be a great way to get a jumpstart in the world of business.

Are online MBA degrees respectable?
Online MBA Degree Basics : Are online MBA degrees respectable?
This question deserves a qualified “yes.” There are two main factors in determining a business school’s respectability: accreditation and reputation. Online MBA programs that are accredited by the proper agencies should be respected by your future employers and colleagues. However, there are many unaccredited or “diploma mill” programs that give out worthless degrees. Avoid them at all costs.
A school with a good reputation can also add respectability to an online MBA degree. Much like law schools, business schools receive rankings from organizations such as Business Week (off-site link) that can affect future employment. Online students may not be offered the same high-paying, big corporation jobs that graduates from top-ranked schools such as Wharton are. However, there are plenty of companies willing to hire MBA grads with degrees from other institutions.

How are online MBA programs different from traditional MBA programs?
Online MBA Degree Basics : How are online MBA programs different from traditional MBA programs?
Distance learning and traditional MBA programs generally share a similar type of curriculum and can be considered equally difficult (depending, of course, on the particular school). Instead of spending hours in class, online MBA students are expected to dedicate their time to studying independently.
Online curriculum generally consists of lectures, readings, assignments, and participation in online discussions. Some programs also offer multimedia components such as video lectures, podcasting, and videoconferencing. Online MBA students from some programs are expected to physically attend a certain number of courses or workshops in order to acquire residency hours. Required tests can usually be taken with proctors in your own community. Online MBA students don’t spend less time studying than their traditional student counterparts. But, they are given the power to fit their school hours into their own schedules.

Online Nursing Schools - Sacred Temples Of Learning
Distance Learning Online Nursing Degree Articles : Online Nursing Schools - Sacred Temples Of Learning by Ekta Jain
Online nursing schools have become means to a better future. The flexibility that they afford to their online students has been appreciated by all working nurses. The quality of online nursing education has greatly improved over the years.
Today it can be said that the quality of online nursing schools is as good as regular nursing schools, if not better. The demand for trained nurses is going to increase in the future because more and more medical conditions would become treatable and old people would constitute a significant portion of U.S population. Online nursing schools would play a major role in educating the future nurses.
Accreditation Is A Must
While applying for an online nursing degree, you should first ensure that it is accredited by proper authorities. The National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) are the two national organizations that accredit nursing education programs. The National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission accredits all types of nursing programs, while CCNE accredits only baccalaureate and master level nursing degrees. For advanced practice nursing fields there are separate accrediting organizations. For example, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program (COA) accredits nurse anesthesia programs at the certificate, master's, and doctoral degree levels.
The school that you choose should be accredited by a national organization. The respective state bodies accredit some online nursing schools. Even though you will get a good quality education from such schools, nationally accredited schools will not recognize their degrees when you choose to pursue further education. This might harm your career in the future.
Employers and other educational institutions recognize online nursing schools accredited by proper authorities. If you earn your degree from one of the accredited online nursing schools, you will increase your value as a nurse. More employers will be willing to hire you and offer better pay packages.
There are many registered nursing degree online programs to choose. As a prospective student, it is your responsibility to make sure that you choose the one that will fulfill your professional goals. So you have to be first sure about what you want to achieve out of your career. Is there any specific field that you are interested in? It might be possible that you are interested in more than one field. Once you know how you want your career to progress, it will be easy for you to choose the right program. You should also make sure that you can study on your own.
You should opt for a registered nursing degree online if you are sure about your commitment and self-discipline. You should be ready to put in a lot of hard work. Most probably you would be working while you are pursuing a nursing degree; therefore, you should ensure that you manage your time effectively.

Pros and Cons of Distance Learning
Distance Education Online Articles : Pros and Cons of Distance Learning by Alan Kenyon
Have you been looking into improving your education but can't quite decide whether a distance learning home study course or evening classes at a nearby college would be best for you. You have more than likely heard a wide range of opinions, both positive and negative.
There has always been a lot of rumour and misinformations floating around that distance learning schools are scams devised to separate naive folks from their money. Another bit of propaganda is that employers largely pass off the diplomas they offer as fluff. Despite the fact that most of these statements are nothing more than urban legends or myth, there is nevertheless some truth to them.
Let us examine some of the facts.
No doubt, you have read stories about politicians or prominent business people who have paid good money for their higher education degrees from a diploma mill. The media milk the story for all it is worth and then it is back to normal business after a few days. Although this does happen from time to time, more often than not, this is not the case.
What is most important of a distance-learning establishment is that the institution has been accredited. Degrees and diplomas from accredited institutions are readily accepted by employers as legitimate. At the end of the day, the employer will have no idea that you obtained your diploma through a home study course rather than a classroom education, that is unless you tell them. What they will know is that you successfully completed the course and all of the other requirements for your degree. Chances are that the employer will not ask to see your diploma and even if they do, there is nothing printed on it.
Something else that you may think or have been told about distance learning is that it is easier than sitting in a classroom. There is no truth in this. In fact, home study may actually be more of a challenge for some students because of the self-discipline involved. At the end of the day, the course is going to cover the same material whether you study at home or in a classroom. That is what academic accreditation is there for.
You should also remember that your assigned tutor will be an important part of how quickly and how much you learn. Just as you would ask other students at a college for their views on instructors, you should do the same research on your distance learning instructors. They all have histories and reputations.
Will your credits transfer from school to school?
At the end of the day, there is little or no difference between distance learning and a bricks and mortar campus on this matter. Accreditation is the key in this circumstance. On the assumption that both your distance learning institution and your new school are both accredited, your official transcript will go through the same review process. It is quite possible that most but not all credits will transfer. Yet again, accreditation is the important thing to research before you begin any distance learning course.
Will I complete my degree requirements at the same pace as traditional class study?
It all depends on the type of person you are and your own personal learning pace. The benefit in this area is that you are not delegated to a classroom pace. You will find that you can breeze through subjects that you find easy but not so quickly on other things. Just remember - Distance learning puts you are in control.

Panama City, Panama, 30 August 2007: The World Agroforestry Centre offers an innovative training course "Contextualising Teaching and Learning in Schools Using Natural Resources - the case of school tree nurseries" by distance learning.
The Enoch Olinga College (ENOCIS) Development and Education encourages practitioners to discover and take advantage of this concrete example of a Distance Learning project in the field of Sustainable Development.
Context: according to the project, many attempts have been made to adjust educational content so that it becomes relevant to sustainable development. In practice, this has often meant the introduction of new topics or subjects, for example natural resources or environmental management. Relatively little emphasis has been placed, however, on the development of education strategies that are based on the immediate context in which the school is located. This training course will deal with the use of natural resources as a way of contextualising primary and secondary education and making teaching and learning more relevant to the local situation. Tree nurseries in schools will be used as examples to demonstrate this concept.
The training course is of interest and open to teachers in primary and secondary schools, lecturers, education officials, representatives of NGOs and CBOs as well as educators active in education for sustainable development. There are no course fees to be paid if one's application is accepted. The training course will take place from 17 September to 5 October 2007. The deadline for receiving applications is 7 September 2007. A resource associated to this highlight includes a PDF document introducing the training course and further information about how to apply. Picture Credit: The World Agroforestry Centre

Why Not Get Your MBA Through Distance Learning
MBA Degree Online : Why Not Get Your MBA Through Distance Learning by Nic Haffner
Distance learning has long been a part of society. However, in the information age we now live in, distance learning has become a more accepted norm in society. This is particularly true for those who already have a degree, but need a post-graduate degree to help further their career ambitions. The masters of business administration (MBA) is one of the degrees that people rarely get before starting their degrees. And, it is rarely worth it financially to take a couple years away from your career to obtain an MBA. However, if you can get an MBA from a reputable college without having to take time away from career and family, it can enhance your earning power and career paths. It is now very acceptable to employers and easy for you to get your MBA online through distance learning.
It is now more common for an accredited university to have a program to allow you to get your MBA online through distance learning than it is for an accredited university to offer an MBA without a distance learning option. Additionally, there are many universities that exist solely for those interested in distance learning.
Fortunately, in most cases where an accredited university offers a distance learning program, they make no distinction between graduates who attend on the campus and graduates who do their coursework online. Some employers still hold to their old preferences of students who attend classes. On the other hand, some employers do now recognize that to get your MBA online through distance learning you have to show a lot of self-discipline and dedication.
The great news for many people is that the wide variety of schools that allow you to get your MBA online through distance learning is an opportunity to let the schools compete over you. You can choose from the schools that offer you a tuition rate you can afford, provide a good reputation, fit your style of learning best, and give you the most flexible scheduling options.
Speaking of fitting your style of learning, online distance learning courses can be delivered in a wide variety of manners. Some universities just send you plain text lessons and then give you timed text quizzes and tests. Other universities give you video feeds from a live classroom at set times, and may even let you interact. Some universities offer student chat rooms to discuss and work on assignments together. Some universities require you to come to the campus for finals. It is not uncommon for a distance learning program to be delivered by recorded multimedia pages. Some of the more technically advanced universities even have interactive learning materials and tutorials. There is a wide variety of schools competing for you so you can pick out what works for you best.
The important thing is that you can get your MBA online through distance learning, no matter what your schedule, budget, or learning style.

When You Are Ready to Earn a Distance Learning MBA Online
MBA Degree Online : When You Are Ready to Earn a Distance Learning MBA Online by Samantha Ellis
Although the concept of distance learning is not a new one, many professionals who already have bachelor's degrees are taking advantage of off-site learning opportunities via distance learning MBAs.
Many accredited universities are beginning to offer distance learning MBA courses in an attempt to reach students who are not able to attend on campus classes for a wide variety of reasons. Many institutions that offer distance learning MBA courses are considered a distance learning college, but many traditional educational institutions are also offering distance learning courses that allow alumni to get a distance learning MBA from their alma matter. However, many times a degree from a distance learning college carries the same weight as a degree earned by students who had the opportunity to attain the same degree in a traditional classroom setting. In fact, some employers and industries actively recruit graduates from a distance learning college because of the ability and discipline it takes to graduate from a distance learning program, especially a distance learning MBA. Graduating by taking advantage of distance learning courses also shows a lot of determination and the drive to succeed, which are the kind of qualities many companies like to see in their new recruits.
However, because of many factors, there are many different distance learning formats you can take advantage of to get your distance learning MBA. Correspondence courses have always been very popular, but many distance learning colleges also offer e learning courses, which mean that it is a strictly online class. Many professionals with busy schedules prefer e learning courses because of the convenience and the ability to access class information from any location with an internet connection. Be sure to seek out a program with a strong distance learning MBA ranking.
Other programs take advantage of a technology called Live Interactive Television. Live Interactive Television allows students to view a real time lesson by an instructor in a distant location. This technology makes it possible for students to ask questions and interact with instructors, which bridges the distance that separates them. Although this format takes some time to get used to, it can allow an instructor to reach a very large audience, as well as exposing students to instructors and guest speakers that they normally would not have access to. It also allows much of the structure that comes along with a traditional classroom.
Many distance learning MBA programs may televise the lectures so that students can watch or record lectures without physically being in class. In many ways, televised courses are better for many students than Live Interactive Television although they do not have the opportunity to ask the teacher questions.
Furthering yourself by seeking a distance learning MBA can be challenging, but many employers and professionals see the difference between an MBA and a bachelor's degree like the difference between a bachelor's degree and a high school diploma.

Online MBA Programs
Distance Learning MBA Education : Online MBA Programs by Mary Jackson
The United States Department of Labor has found that people who hold a master's degree actually earn eighteen percent more per week than people who do not have one. The annual report regarding the state of online education in the United States, In Growing by Degrees:
Online Education in the United States, 2005, it was reported that 44 percent of schools that offer master's degree programs in person also offer online master's degree programs. The convenience of distance learning master's degree programs makes it easier for working professionals to pursue higher education without compromising their current position.
The United States Department of Education found that over 75 accredited colleges offer MBA education online. Virtual classrooms provide literally hundred of options for graduate students to select from in areas such as science, arts, fine arts, accounting, real estate, education, finance, business administration and more.
Distance learning master's degree programs require students to hold a bachelor's degree and dedicate the greater portion of their time to studying independently. The possible curriculum of online master's degree programs may be delivered through email, virtual lectures, reading assignments, online chats and writing assignments. Some online graduate education programs may require students to physically attend a certain number of courses or workshops to earn residency hours.
Testing for online master's degree programs is frequently done through proctors right in the student's neighborhood. To help finance their education, students can pursue federal and state financial aid, loans, scholarships and employer tuition reimbursement programs. Students traditionally attend thirty to sixty semester hours to complete a master's degree, which can be done online in fifteen to thirty-six months.
Master's degrees are differentiated by post-nominal letters that show the level of academic achievement a student has earned. The most common areas of master's degree education are Master of Education (MEd, MAT, MSEd), Master of Science (MS), Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). MBA education online programs allow busy business executives to conveniently fit advanced learning into their schedules. Further, one in five students studying to earn a master's degree pursues an MBA, proving that MBA education online affords more people the chance to achieve higher learning.
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, those people who hold a master's degree enjoy salaries that are $200 higher than those people who hold a bachelor's degree. Distance learning master's degree programs enable more people to pursue the dream of higher education without compromising their current circumstances.

Online Nursing Degree: A Wide Open Opportunity
Distance Learning - Online Nursing Degree: A Wide Open Opportunity by Elizabeth Whitesmith
The past few years has seen the need for nursing in the United States reach a critical level. By the time of retirement for the majority of the baby boomers there will be a shortage of the medical professionals needed to care for the aging population. This shortage has been beneficial to some, however, as those who are interested in the profession have seen the average salary increase consistently over a period of 15 years.
Many people, however, are unable to quit their day jobs just to go back to college. They need to be able to find an educational opportunity that works for their lifestyles, without hampering their abilities to raise families. One of the best ways that people can enter the nursing profession and work as they are studying is to enroll in an online nursing degree program.
There are many distance based programs that also offer online nursing degree programs. Among those that offer this option are Regent's College of New York, Walden University, and University of Phoenix. Some of them offer entry level programs, but the majority of them are bachelor degree programs online for those who are registered nurses with an associate's degree.
Many colleges that claim to let you earn bachelor degree online may not be properly accredited, which would render the degrees that you would earn useless. If you are thinking about taking courses for an online nursing degree, make sure that the school offering the courses is fully credentialed. No one wants to spend a lot of money and time working on a degree program and then find out that their efforts have been wasted.
How to pay for one's degree is another major concern. Nontraditional students might find it difficult to receive government loans and federal grants. So, these students will need to discover new and creative ways to pay for school. Most trustworthy institutions will have financial aid specialists to answer questions about these nontraditional avenues.
Persons who are interested in pursuing an online nursing degree must be up to the challenge. Financing may be somewhat problematic, and these individuals must learn to balance the demands of work and family with the discipline of studying on their own. Those who are able to balance these challenges, ultimately completing their degree and working as a professional nurse, may find that their success is even that much more gratifying.

How to Determine the Quality of an Online Nursing Program
Distance Learning Online Nursing Degree : How to Determine the Quality of an Online Nursing Program by Grant Eckert
Accreditation
The process of accreditation is not mandatory for nursing programs, but it is desirable.
Accreditation is a voluntary program that schools can use to make sure that their program is on par with other schools across the country. While there may be many fine schools that are not accredited, accreditation should give you confidence in an online nursing program. Another reason to choose a school with a valid accreditation is that many schools will not take transfers or allow continuing education from a school that is not accredited.
There are two groups that accredit nursing programs in the United States. They are the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, or NLNAC, and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, or CCNE. By choosing a school that has the seal of approval from one of these agencies, you should feel confident that you are enrolling in a quality program.
Styles of Learning
Once you are comfortable that your school meets national standards, you must determine whether it will work for you. Online classes are becoming increasingly popular, which is both good and bad. The rapid growth in popularity of online classes has made it difficult for some schools to turn away students. Consider it from the schools point of view. An online course normally costs the same as a regular course. However, the online student does not need a seat in the classroom, does not need to fit into a class. Many colleges do not restrict the class size for online classes. While this may not be a problem if you really understand the coursework and are able to work well independently, it can cause a problem if you need extra help or find yourself falling behind.
One way that many online classes work is by collaborative learning. It is not unusual for the instructor to divide the class into smaller groups and provide assignment for each small group to work together on. Depending on your group you may find yourself spending a good deal of time in online discussions that you had not counted on when planning your time.
Other classes provide little to no interaction between yourself and other students. You will check a class message board for assignments and receive your grades in an email and have little interaction with anything other than the text book.
While it is helpful to discuss the styles of classes before you settle on a school, most teachers within a school have their own style of teaching, and you will have to adapt to each method. The most important factor when considering an online nursing program is the availability of the teachers. In even the smallest classes, if the teacher is unavailable or less than timely in returning graded assignments it will be hard to get the most from your classes.
Hands on Training
In a nursing profession it is important to receive hands on training. You will have to count on a certain number of class hours to be clinical, or hands on. The number of hours and how they are accumulated will vary by school and degree program. Someone studying for the registered nurse, or RN, degree will spend a great deal of time doing clinical work, while a student completing their Bachelor's of Science in Nursing that already is an RN and has worked as a nurse will require few, if any, clinical hours.
Getting Your Questions Answered
An online nursing program, like any other online degree program, is only as good as the people running it. It can be more difficult to determine the quality of the teaching in an online setting, but by paying attention and doing your research you may have find some clues. When you contact the school initially, how are you treated? Are your calls and emails returned promptly? Are your questions answered in a clear manner? The treatment you receive before you are a registered student can be indicative of the treatment you will receive through your time at the school.
Does the staff seem generally knowledgeable and available to answer your questions about financial aid, transferring credits, and other factors that you must consider before committing to one school? While everyone is an individual, you may discover that a helpful and administrative staff often works in the same places as supportive teachers.
The bottom line when shopping for an online nursing program is straightforward. Check that the program is accredited, make sure that there is a system in place for you to receive your clinical hours, and consider the attitude of the staff before you enroll as a student.

Distance Learning Degrees: The Flexible Route To Higher Education
Distance Education Learning Online Articles : Distance Learning Degrees: The Flexible Route To Higher Education by Chonticha Marijne
More students around the world are taking advantage of distance learning degrees and degree programs, thanks to the Internet and the willingness of educators to recognize the fact that many people can't attend traditional school campuses due to work or family obligations. While such issues used to keep hundreds, if not thousands, out of college, such restrictions of time and location no longer remain the key issue when it comes to higher education.
The transition to such opportunities has been a long time in coming, and is long overdue. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost earning wages due to lack of college degrees will no longer hold employees back from obtaining the jobs of their dreams, or from pursuing higher goals within organizations. The benefits of attending online schools are obvious, and detractors have little to say. As little as a decade ago, the idea of attending an online school brought snickers or raised eyebrows. People believed that distance learning education programs were just for those wishing to pursue dental or medical assistant careers, though that was, and still isn't, the case.
Major universities around the world now offer online coursework as well as degrees in just about every field of employment, including medical, education, and law enforcement careers, just to name a few. A well-rounded and accredited online college offers students the same quality and coursework as a traditional brick and mortar college, without having to attend classes on campus. In rural areas, or for people obligated to full time jobs and family responsibilities, online college coursework is a blessing.
Such schools are held to the same high standards as a traditional campus, and must pass an accreditation program just as thorough, if not more so, than those given to campuses around the country and the world. Accreditation experts look at student services, coursework materials, testing methods and financial records to ascertain whether or not any school is able to offer expert and qualified instructors and coursework materials. For those seeking information on online distance learning colleges and coursework opportunities, an Internet search will bring up hundreds of online campuses. When narrowing down your list of possibilities, keep important things at the top of your list. First, are student services available, and are you going to be able to talk to a live person during normal business hours? Will instructors be available online or via email to answer specific questions and issues concerning coursework, testing and lecture schedules?
Of course, financing is also important, and while one may expect to pay a little more to attend an online degree program, the extra cost more than makes up for lost wages or the inconvenience of driving to a physical school campus to complete coursework. Many online degree programs offer student financing, as well as student loans, so always check ahead of time to make sure you get the most from your chosen school.
Online distance learning degrees and programs are the wave of the future, and competition is fierce and continues to rise. Do your research, take your time, and find the online college that offers exactly what you need.

Are you Interested Bible Studies Distance Learning Programs?
Distance Education Learning Online Articles : Are you Interested Bible Studies Distance Learning Programs? by Kelly Hunter
Distance learning programs offer convenience as a four year degree, masters or doctorate can be obtained, for the most part in the comfort of your own home. A college degree can afford you the academic foundation you may be looking for. But if you are looking to take your spirituality to the next level, a Bible Studies college degree may be just what fits the bill.
For such studies, there are many colleges to choose from with many offering free courses in theology to Apologetics. The difference between bible studies versus more traditional courses is that, in Bible studies, the ultimate gain is spiritual rather than monetary. Many colleges offer a free trial course where you can evaluate the school before signing your life away.
Much like choosing a traditional educational program the same agenda should hold true. Always check the credentials of the institution which you plan to apply to. There are so many schools, so make sure you are thorough in your checks before making your final selection.
Make sure the school is able to meet your personal needs. Only you know what you are looking for in the program of your choice. Some students like larger institutions for various reasons while others like a smaller college where one on one tutelage can be experienced. Making a mental note of your likes and dislikes will help pinpoint which program best meets your needs.
One of the most contreversal issues surrounding distance learning is the lack of face to face interaction. If this is a concern of yours, seek out hybrid or blended programs where the convenience of online education and physical on-site interaction can be obtained.
Know how far you want to go. Some schools offer great undergraduate programs but may be lacking for post graduate degrees.
What about the social atmosphere and clubs and organizations you may miss out on? Personally, distance learning programs are best suited for non-traditional students. The best part of the college experience can not be replaced by online interaction. But for the mother juggling two children and a 9 to 5 it is a lifesaver.
How do you know if distance learning is for you?
* Have you been meaning to go back to school but you can't find the time? It is easier to fit an online course into your schedule rather than trying to arrange your life around the more traditional learning programs.
* Are you limited in your college choices? Has the high cost of education left you with minimal options? Some students can not afford to pay the high costs associated with out of State tuition. Distance learning offers the same rate for all students who apply while simultaneously offering a wide range of academic programs perhaps not offered in one's hometown.
* If you like to set your own pace. Many online programs give you the course materials and assignments ahead of time and if you choose, you can complete the necessary requirements ahead of schedule.
* The possibilities are endless with distance learning. Know your options and choose the program best suited for you needs.
